1. Who we are
TutorMa is operated by PiHive Technologies, a company registered in India at S1, 2nd Floor, KP Abinandhan, Green Park, Sithalapakkam, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu 600126, India. For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, PiHive Technologies is the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here.
You can reach us about anything on this page at sridevi@pihivetech.com.
2. The short version
- The account belongs to a parent or legal guardian. A child never creates their own account.
- What you upload — diary pages, textbook pages, notebooks — stays within your family account. It is not shared with other families.
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not show advertising of any kind to children.
- We do not use children's work, images or voice to train AI models by default.
- You can ask us to delete any of it.
3. What we collect
From the parent
- Account details — mobile number, and any name or email address you choose to give us. The mobile number is how you sign in, and we send a one-time password to verify it.
- Preferences — app language, notification settings.
- Instructions you give — typed or spoken notes about what a session should cover, and any corrections you make to a plan.
- Messages to us — support emails and anything you choose to include in them.
About the child
- Profile — preferred name or nickname, class or grade, board or curriculum, mother tongue, preferred explanation language and support languages. Optionally school, academic year, subjects, textbooks, and any learning support needs you tell us about.
- Uploaded material — photographs of homework diaries, textbook and workbook pages, worksheets and notebook work, including the text we extract from those images.
- Session content — the child's speech during a tutoring session, our transcription of it, the tutor's replies, answers given, hints used, and whether each task was completed independently or with help.
- Session outcomes — the summaries and parent reports generated from the above.
Technical data
- Device type, operating system version, app version, coarse diagnostics, crash reports, and connection quality — used to keep audio sessions working and to fix faults.
This website itself sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third-party servers. Fonts and images are served from the same domain as the page.
4. Children's data and parental consent
TutorMa is designed for school-age children and is set up on their behalf by a parent or legal guardian, who must be 18 or older. By creating a child profile you confirm that you are that child's parent or guardian and that you consent, on their behalf, to the processing described in this policy.
In line with the DPDP Act, for anyone under 18 we do not:
- carry out any advertising, behavioural targeting or profiling directed at the child;
- track them across other apps or websites, or build a marketing profile of them;
- process their data in a way likely to have a detrimental effect on their wellbeing.
Children are shown a restricted mode that cannot reach account settings, payments, other children's profiles or private parent notes. We ask for as little about a child as a session actually needs. Verifiable parental consent is obtained through an OTP sent to the parent's mobile number at sign-up.
5. Why we process it
- To read the material you upload and turn it into a study plan you confirm.
- To run the tutoring session — understanding what the child says, teaching from the confirmed material, and responding by voice.
- To judge and record progress — what was attempted, understood, assisted or left unfinished.
- To produce your report and the child's session history.
- To improve extraction accuracy for your family — when you correct a misread page, we store that correction so the same mistake is not repeated on your diary or your books.
- To keep the service running and safe — fault diagnosis, abuse prevention, and security.
- To meet legal obligations where they apply.
6. AI processing and who else sees the data
TutorMa uses third-party AI services to convert speech to text, generate the tutor's spoken replies, and read text from uploaded pages. To do that, session audio, transcripts and page images are sent to those providers as the session runs.
We select providers that process this content only to return a result to us under our instructions, and we do not permit them to use your family's content to train their own models. Our current processors are Google (Gemini), Sarvam AI and OpenAI. We will update this list whenever it changes.
Beyond those processors, we share personal data only:
- with infrastructure providers who host and store the data on our behalf, under contract;
- where required by law, or to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim;
- if the business is transferred to another entity, in which case you will be told before your data moves and this policy will continue to apply until you are given a new one.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.
7. Model training
We do not use children's uploads, handwriting, voice or session content to train AI models by default. If we ever want to use any of it for model development, we will ask for your explicit, separate, opt-in consent first, and refusing will not reduce the service you get.
We do use aggregated, de-identified information — for example how often an extraction step fails, or how long sessions take — to make the product work better. This cannot be traced back to a child.
8. Storage, security and location
Uploaded images and session data are stored encrypted, scoped to your family account, and are accessible only to those of our staff who need access to operate or support the service. Data is stored on infrastructure located in Mumbai, India. Where a processor operates outside India, transfers are made in accordance with applicable Indian law.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data we will notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as required.
9. How long we keep it
- Account and child profile — for as long as your account is open.
- Uploaded material and session history — until you delete it, or 12 months after it was created, whichever comes first.
- Diagnostics and logs — 90 days.
When you close your account we delete or irreversibly anonymise your family's personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to keep something to comply with the law.
10. Your rights
As the parent holding the account, you can:
- see what we hold about you and your child;
- correct anything inaccurate, including a wrongly assessed result;
- delete a document, a session, a child profile or the whole account;
- withdraw consent, which will end the processing that depends on it;
- nominate someone to exercise these rights if you are unable to;
- complain to us, and then to the Data Protection Board of India.
Write to sridevi@pihivetech.com and we will respond within 30 days. Our Grievance Officer is [Grievance Officer's full legal name], contactable at sridevi@pihivetech.com or at S1, 2nd Floor, KP Abinandhan, Green Park, Sithalapakkam, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu 600126, India.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for any change that materially affects how your family's data is handled we will tell you in the app or by message before it takes effect.
